Project to Advance Democratic Institutions (PADI)
![]()
Head of PADI: ‘Abidin Muhriz
PADI was established in April 2008 to focus on advancing our democratic institutions – defined not only as tangible bodies such as parliament or the judiciary, but also concepts such as press freedom or rule of law – by:
- Hosting forum seminars to debate the state of our democratic institutions
- Following up with initiatives to tangibly reinforce or reform them
- Releasing press releases and commentary in response to pertinent issues
- Running long-term programmes to strengthen democracy in Malaysia
Backbenchers’ Research and Analysis Service (BERAS)
BERAS is PADI’s first long-term programme to strengthen democracy in Malaysia. It aims to equip Malaysian parliamentarians with independent sources of research through expert policy seminars, briefings and access to specialist researchers, modelled on the British Parliamentary Resources Unit.
