Libertarian Education Project (LEAP)
![]()
Head of LEAP: Wan Saiful Wan Jan
LEAP was established in May 2008 to educate Malaysians about libertarianism by:
- Hosting Akademi Merdeka (Freedom Academy) every April / May, August and December / January
- Producing Op-Eds, articles and press releases aimed at informing the public about libertarian ideas
- Syndicating articles via waubebas.org and blogging
- Organising events to educate the public and policy-makers about libertarian ideas
- Supporting Wau Bebas Clubs in universities across the country
Freedom Academy
Akademi Merdeka is a short course (usually over a weekend) organised under LEAP for young professionals and university students to educate them about libertarian ideas. Akademi Merdeka aims to produce cohorts of alumni who will actively promote freedom and liberty in Malaysia. Alumni will be invited to help organise and / or take part in suitable MTT activities, and, for those still at university, they will be encouraged and supported to run Wau Bebas Clubs in campus.
Wau Bebas Clubs
The Wau Bebas Clubs will be run by alumni of Akademi Merdeka to promote libertarian ideas to university students. They will organise discussion groups, talks and other suitable activities to attract student participation. LEAP will support and guide them as much as possible, but they will be encouraged to work independently.
